University of Washington iSchool, Condon Hall

The Information School (iSchool) currently occupies 41,500 SF across five buildings on the UW Seattle Campus. The goal of this Tenant Improvement project is to collocate the growing multiple iSchool teams into a single location of roughly 2,500 SF at Condon Hall, on floors 3, 4, and 5. The Condon Hall Renovation was designed with the aspirational goal of providing a colorful and modern look and feel for the iSchool’s user base which consists of faculty, staff, and PhD students. The various types of desired space environments included: classroom and research center, conference, break room, employee lounge, collaboration, as well as desking. The project is currently on permanent hold pending additional funding.

Below are the conceptual renderings for the new scope of work followed by images of the existing conditions.

The building’s brutalist nature brings some great opportunities to showcase the beautiful concrete structure while adding some warmth and color with the renovation. This contrast in materials, texture, and color, is an exciting design challenge to resolve. Hoping this project comes back on line in the future to create engaging spaces for the students, faculty, and staff of these programs.
