Kansas City Exploration

By Brian Poppe

During a recent visit to Kansas City, I enjoyed exploring the downtown area with my daughter on Father’s Day.  The first stop was the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.  Designed by Moshe Safdie, groundbreaking was in 2006 and it was completed five years later. I had seen it before only as the curved turbine shapes visible from the nearby highway. On this trip, we had time to spend walking around and appreciating the forms, parallel lines, and parallel curves.

The surprise was seeing the other side: all clear glass supported by tension cables.

Exploring around found other parallel lines, reflected or otherwise.
