HKP Office Retreat 2023: Vancouver, B.C.

Taking advantage of the last of the Pacific Northwest’s sunny fall weather, the HKP team embarked on the annual staff retreat in early October—this time to Vancouver, B.C. The mix of quality free time with team-building exercises in a new environment always makes for an exciting reset away from the office.

The scenic landscapes along the Amtrak North Cascades route from Skagit Station to Pacific Central set the stage for a relaxing two-day trip. Steamworks Brewpub in the historic Gastown district was a welcome break for lunch before checking in at our waterfront hotel—afternoon free time found just about everyone enjoying the view at the harbor. Later in the evening, a farm-to-table, family-style dinner awaited us at Forage on Robson Street.

Friday morning kicked off bright and early with breakfast in the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Atrium Boardroom before our morning sessions that focused on teamwork, office culture, and the equally important task of creating sound structures out of uncooked spaghetti and marshmallows. For the afternoon, we took time to shop, explore, and eat wherever we liked at the famously vibrant Granville Island before a serene train ride back down south.

With two new team members at HKP this year, getting to know our coworkers a bit better was a highlight of the trip. As the year comes to a close, our office retreat offered rejuvenation that was enjoyed by all and will continue to inspire the work we produce in 2024.

Dedicated to the craft…

…whether the building materials are steel and concrete or spaghetti and marshmallows!
